This faculty position is in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics & Medical Epidemiology (BBME), within the School of Medicine and is open to applicants at all ranks on the tenure/tenure track or non-tenure track focused on biostatistics. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of research, education, and service through expertise in statistical methodologies and data analysis.

The department seeks highly motivated individuals with a passion for scientific discovery and improving healthcare. Our faculty members research, develop and support environments for the effective uses of biomedical data, information and knowledge for scientific inquiry, problem solving and decision making, driven by efforts to improve human health. BBME researchers secure federal, state and non-profit grants and industry partnerships to advance their work and the mission of the university. Responsibilities will include:

1. Research:
  • Conduct methodological and collaborative research in biostatistics, addressing critical challenges in medicine, epidemiology, clinical trials, and other related fields.
  • Develop and apply advanced statistical models and techniques to analyze complex datasets, including longitudinal data, survival analysis, Bayesian methods, and causal inference.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.

2. Teaching and Mentorship:
  • Develop and teach courses in biostatistics at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional levels, covering topics such as statistical methods, data management, and computational tools.
  • Mentor and advise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty in research design, statistical analysis, and professional development.
  • Provide statistical consultation and collaborate with researchers across disciplines to support data-driven decision-making and research excellence.

3. Service and Leadership:
  • Serve on departmental and university committees to contribute to academic governance and curriculum development.
  • Engage with professional organizations and participate in community outreach activities to promote Biostatistics education and research.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, public health agencies, and industry partners to apply statistical methodologies to real-world health challenges and policy decisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
Candidates will be evaluated on:
  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical methodologies relevant to biostatistics, such as linear and generalized linear models, multilevel modeling, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, Bayesian methods, and machine learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in statistical software packages and computational tools for data analysis.
  • A record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals focused on biostatistics or related disciplines and success in obtaining research funding.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring students and junior researchers in academic or professional settings.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners.
About the Department: 
The Department of Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics and Medical Epidemiology (BBME) at the University of Missouri School of Medicine is a leader in health informatics education, research, and service.
The department offers a master's degree in health informatics (MS), as well as graduate certificates in healthcare project management, health ethics, and health informatics. Students may pursue master's degrees on campus through our residential program or primarily online through our executive program for working professionals.
Our faculty members research and develop methods for monitoring population health. BBME researchers continue to secure federal, state, and foundation funding to pursue their work, and health outcomes and information research is one of the top areas of strength at the MU School of Medicine. Because of our faculty member's expertise and the strength of our projects and centers, research collaborators regularly call on our faculty members for strategic partnerships.
